For years, we celebrated Grandma’s birthdays on a grand scale. We started the tradition on her 87th birthday and continued until she was unable to attend, which was her 100th birthday. Each New Year, we prayed that she would live to see another birthday. I must admit it was a bit selfish of us, but we loved her so much.
On New Year’s 2025, we celebrated the New Year with Grandma. I mentioned to her that her 105th birthday was only 6 months away and how much I was looking forward to celebrating it with her. She smiled and said her famous line,” If the Lord says the same.”
Grandma celebrated her 105th birthday on July 6th, 2026. Days prior, she was talkative, but on that day, she wasn’t. She slept the majority of the day.
Two weeks later, Grandma went home to be with the Lord. Although we miss her, we know that she loved us dearly and gave us her all to the very end.
She is truly missed, but she will never be forgotten. I personally take solace in knowing that the next time I see her, it will be forever.
